Alonso hit a wall and was elimintaed from the race early on allowing Hamilton to open up a 12 point lead in the Driver's Championship. The safety car had been out for most of the first few laps due to bad weather conditions. The surprise of the race came from Renault driver Kovaleinen who raced to his first career podium finsih holding of fellow Finn Raikkonen for second place. Hamilton has 107 points followed by Alonso (95) and Raikkonen (90).
